Introduction

Networking is a core component of running a good business. Even during an economic depression, survival is possible if the owner has good networking skills. It is also possible for a company to have free marketing employing word of mouth. Networking prevents stagnation and allows people to gain new contacts.

Importance of Networking

  • Networking is an important skill to have in a sales job. People are more likely to help people they have a good personal relationship with, be it a manager of another firm or the janitor at your apartment. The main thing to note is that both parties need to gain something to be considered networking. Both parties should gain either experience or monetary gain for it to be called a successful networking event.
  •  Usually, a networking event consists of peers interested in working together and maintaining a long-term relationship with each other. Networking allows individuals to give out their credentials and experience to future employers. This is a good place to start establishing a safety net in case current employment is at risk.
  • The information passed on by those before us has incredible value. Create a complex relationship with them to fuel your ambition and help maintain your brand.
  • Utilize your network to leverage profits from vendors by asking them for discounts and getting better prices for the products that you are selling.
  • If you are part of a small start-up, networking events put you in the spotlight, garnering consumers for the product you are trying to sell. These events are a good way to promote oneself and their company without the cost of advertising. It is a cheap and affordable tactic to push through and be established as a serious contender in a field.

How To Build network

  • Organizing like-minded individuals in a public setting is the best way to create a successful networking endeavour. Organize a meet and greet with entertainment and drinks to get them in the groove and allow them to mingle. A good plan is to carry many business cards to hand out. Enjoy the evening and create a fun image in the eyes of your peers to garner their interest.
  • The hardest part of networking is maintaining the network that you created. Be in constant contact and hang out, which will help send the message that you can be trusted and will behave predictably. Talk to them about the field you are a part of, and they will reciprocate and allow you to gain insider knowledge in other fields. This allows for information to be interchanged without damaging the contractual bonds of employees. Allow this information to manifest; that is, use this information to your benefit.
  • Use social media to your advantage by contacting high-level employees of companies that interest you and have your attention. Create a personal relationship through LinkedIn and communicate regularly with them too. Always remember that it is a give-and-take relationship, so don’t be hesitant to share knowledge in your fields too.
  • Initialise conversations with veterans of the field you are a part of. Gain valuable information about the trends they were a member of and consider it a learning experience. Ask them to mentor you and have a healthy relationship with them. This opens up far more lucrative business opportunities with clients they have dealt with.
  • Take part in all the meetings and events hosted by different companies in your city. This helps keep you in the minds of large companies who might value you and may provide you with job opportunities down the line.

Networking is a key part of the business, without which each company has a clear disadvantage. Knowledge is not shared equally, but it can be gained easily. Have fun, socialize, and enjoy the perks of being acquainted with influential people in your field of interest.
